I read an interesting article on ADHD

I was reading an article in a childrens health magazine on ADHD. I have a son with ADHD, so it really caught my attention.

What i found was this. ADHD is a condition of the brain that makes it difficult for children to control thier behavior. It is one of the most common chronic conditions of childhood. It affects about 12% of school-aged children. This is not a condition that just goes away. When you think of the number of adults that suffered from this condition as kids, the number of adults and children with this condition is staggering. How do you know if your children or even you suffer from ADHD? I am not a qualified person to diagnose this condition, but here is a list of symptoms to be aware of.

Inattention: Has a hard time paying attention, Does not seem to listen, Easily distracted from work or play, Does not seem to care about details, Makes careless mistakes often, Does not follow through with instructions or finish tasks, Is disorganized, Frequently loses important things, Forgets things a lot, Avoids doing things that require ongoing mental effort

Hyperactivity: Is in constant motion as if "driven by a motor", Cannot stay seated, Squirms and fidgets often, Talks too much, Cannot play quietly

Impulsivity: Often acts and speaks without thinking, Has trouble taking turns, Cannot wait for things, Calls out answers before the question is completed, Interrupts others often

Once again, I must say that I am no way qualified to diagnose ADHD. Just because you recognize one or two of these symptoms does not necessarily mean you or your child has ADHD. If you recognize several things on this list and the list is by no means complete, it might be something you want to look into, get a professional opinion.

If you or your child does have ADHD, DO NOT DESPAIR. There are many medications that are out there to treat this condition. If you are like me, I am not too fond of medications. My opinion is that doctors are just too quick to hand out medications these days. I am tired of turning on the television and seeing these commercials about lawsuits because of all the medications that have been allowed on the market too quick if you ask me.

Here is my son's story

My son was diagnosed with ADHD when he was in first grade. He was having trouble at home and in school. We ended up going through and trying several different medications in a three year period to find the best solution without destroying his personality. My son is a good kid with a warm and sensitive heart. I just didn't want to see him turn into a zombie like I had the misfortune to see in other children on these medications. I finally found a combination that seemed to work for him....or so I thought. He started doing better in school, less visits to the principal's office. He seemed to calm down more so at home with smaller meltdowns if they happened at all. I thought everything was going good for him. In the back of my mind, I still wasn't comfortable with him being on this kind of medication, especially since I noticed that he had lost his appetite. He ate, but not what a growing boy should. Not to mentoin, the medication was expensive even with my insurance co-pay. I was paying over $100 each month with the co-pay. Then a sad thing happened. I lost my job, which also meant I lost the insurance. That meant my cost for the medication jumped up to about $400 a month. There was no way I could afford that. So I did some research. I found out that with Herbalife products, I could help him with his ADHD. The thing I really like the most is that they are all natural products as well. So I tried it, what did I have to lose. IT WORKED! I put my son on the Formula 1 Healthy Meal Nutritional Shake. He does this twice a day, once in the morning with breakfast and right when he gets home from school. This makes sure he is getting plenty of the nutrients he needs for his day and also helps keep him feeling fuller longer. I noticed before that trouble times always seemed to start more often when he was feeling hungry. He still eats his normal meals throughout the day as well. I also put him on Herbalife's N-R-G which he takes twice a day as well, one at breakfast and one after school. This product comes in two forms, either tablets or a powder you can add to the shake or turn into a tea. My son didnt like the taste of the tea, so we just do the tablets. it decreased his energy level to point where he could concentrate more on tasks at hand. It was the start of fourth grade when I made this change for him. The results were astounding. He is a straight A student. The only time he went to the principal's office was to recieve his good citizenship awards twice. I was very happy to see his appetite come back. Guess what.....not a single meltdown since he got on Herbalife.

Oh, I almost forgot! I became aware of something that made me really dislike the medication he was on before. It was finally coming to my attention that my son was getting picked on at school. I eventually found out that the bullying had been going on for over two years. When he was on the medication, it made his anger all but completely go away. So kids would pick on him and he just had an Oh-well attitude. I am a believer that anger is not a healthy emotion, but it makes a very handy tool if used in the right way. it helps you recognize when things are just not right for yourself. Now that my son was off the medication he was getting angry and hurt. I am just glad that I was able to catch this before he got much older and the problem would have been more difficult to deal with.

I really hope this story helps some of you out there that are faced with the same situations I found my self faced with.

If you are interested in looking into the same program I have my son on. Click on my website for my store or just call me. I will be more than happy to help you out. I really believe in Herbalife products. It really did wonders for my son. I truly believe it can do wonders for you or your child too.

Thanks for sharing your son's story. I thought that could have been what he had. He seems to be doing great on the new regimen. Hope it continues to work and hope that more people with kid's with ADHD will try it.

That is what I am hoping for John. I hate seeing parents giving up on thier kids and letting the doctors zombify thier kids just to keep them managable. It is not the childs fault, why punish them that way.
